Here is a bronze or copper plaque near the World’s Tallest Water Sphere. This plaque is embedded in a bridge guard rail. I love the green verdigris color of the plaque, the green mossy color spilling below, and the tan/pink sand and gray aggregate of the concrete. Also note the Grecian columns and borders of [...]

Winemaker Snoqualmie of Paterson, Columbia Valley, Washington gives recognition to water towers with its 2006 cabernet sauvignon. The artwork shows an iconic 4-legged tower, with town name Prussia (?), set against a swirling background, reminiscent of Van Gogh or Degas. The label is overprinted with clear varnish echoing the swirling of the background beneath. Click [...]

Reader Adam Vorphilack writes to share a photo of an awesome water sphere sculpture done in chromed steel. This is an award that the Moog site in New York awards to retirees. You got to give credit to the Moog company. They love their water sphere, and being a true water sphere, it’s a work [...]

Mike Merrit of Austin, Texas writes to share his passion for water towers. Not only does he photograph them, he also makes original models like the one shown here. This model is made from clay, steel and molded rubber. It bears a striking resemblance to the World’s Tallest Water Sphere, especially with the vibrant blue [...]

This heavenly alignment of the World’s Tallest Water Sphere and the Sun was photographed and submitted by reader Brian Donahue in February of 2010. The photo is taken from Route 78 in the Hillside area looking west. As several readers have mentioned, there is an alignment of Sphere and Sun during two moments during the [...]

This gravity defying action shot of the World’s Tallest Water Sphere was taken recently from a speeding automobile traveling north on the Garden State Parkway. Thanks to Gina Signorella-Arlen who enlisted the help of her family in capturing this shot safely while navigating crowded swarms of swerving New Jersey drivers attempting to perform the same [...]

There are many artists that visit the World’s Tallest Water Sphere site. They make beautiful photographs, computer images, and artwork and contribute it to the site for all the world to see. Most of us gaze in awe at the wonderful creations they make that inspire us and give us hope for humankind, just as [...]

Here is a colored pencil art work by David Wuethrich entitled “The Runner.” In the background we see a “blue era” Union water tower prominently displayed with clear “Union” markings and the “dual halo” neck pieces. In the foreground, a runner follows an arduous path to the summit. The runner is dressed for summer, glasses [...]

Water Sphere Phan Gina Signorella-Arlen has contributed another of her World’s Tallest Water Sphere artistic masterpieces, this one entitled “Sphere of Sauron.” She writes, “One sphere to rule them all, one sphere to find them…” and to that we respond, “one sphere to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.” Yes, the evil [...]

These colorful World’s Tallest Water Sphere proposals are sent to us from Gina Signorella-Arlen, formerly of Roselle Park and self-professed WTWS groupie. Not only the photo-editing, but the titles of her works include the ironic humor that many Jerseyans share. I especially like the Zeppelin one, I am sure many Zeppelin album covers (e.g. Presence) [...]

A few weeks ago we posted the Star Ledger Live story about the World’s Tallest Water Sphere and this site. In case you did not watch the video, there were 3 very creative proposals for a new paint scheme for the WTWS. I believe writer Brian Donahue mentioned that they are the creative works of [...]

As many readers of this site are aware, the World’s Tallest Water Sphere connects us through time and space. We are all connected to its past, evidenced in our relationships to the histories of the WTWS shared earlier on this site. We are also connected to its future, envisioning what will be, and molding and [...]

The attached photo of the World’s Tallest Water Sphere was submitted by Gina (Signorella) Arlen, self-described WTWS groupie, formerly of Roselle Park. This is a very recent photo because the World’s Tallest Water Sphere now sports a flashing red beacon which makes it taller than last year’s World’s Tallest Water Sphere. I like the angle [...]

Look up during winter’s short days, and you might be lucky enough to see the World’s Tallest Water Sphere. Of course you must be somewhere near Union, New Jersey, and you must be looking sometime during the shortened daylight hours. The current “ghost gray” paint scheme of the tower goes particularly well with the gray [...]

Not really. But here is an imagined Aurora “long box” polystrene model if it were ever produced by the now-defunct model company. This isometric view not only shows the cover with the prominent Elizabethtown Water and Gas logo, but also the side information including the Aurora company logo as well. This artistic conceptualization is provided [...]

In case you have never seen Google Earth, or have not run it in a while, be aware that this wonderful map / visualization / virtual travel program has become populated rapidly by the user community with three-dimensional models of famous structures. In other words, not only can you zoom around the country, viewing maps [...]

Sorry for those of you looking for a famous children’s band. When I say Wiggles, I am talking about a photographic technique in which two similar photos taken a few inches apart are animated. The result is a somewhat three dimensional looking image. If you have two similar cameras you can make a rig to [...]
